Latin America Transformed/Gwynne & Kay, Eds.

Uploaded by : Essays-Now.com

A 3 page books review of this text, edited by Robert N. Gweynne and Cristobal Kay. The editors address the fact that Latin American studies over the past several decades have been highly fragmented. Studies performed within the realm of various disciplines, i.e., economics, political science, etc., have alluded to a broader context only in passing, if at all. Therefore, the stated intention of the editors in compiling this text is to offer a holistic evaluation of the transformation of Latin American that characterizes the region's recent history. To accomplish this purpose, the editors adopt a "political economy approach," which "consciously tries to integrate political, economic, social and geographical phenomena" (Gweynne and Kay 3).
